Retired 2/1/17 ... finally!!

All of the kids spent the 2017 Christmas holiday at our house. Since they live in Delaware and Georgia, it was great seeing them. We had a very good time!

We repeated the 2017 Christmas event in 2019, only this time we had a new member, Ella, our newest member of the family.

Due to being housebound during the COVID pandemic, I wrote and published a book called "Happiness is a Cool Reactor" about my career in nuclear energy.

With the pandemic continuing through 2021, I wrote a second book called "The Real Night Order Book" about the two US submarines called Billfish. I was a crewmember on the second one. This book was just published in May 2022. You can visit my author's page at -

A Reed family reunion was held on Thanksgiving 2022. Finally able to see everyone since the COVID lockdown began. We had a great time and also the kids and grandkids were here to help Terrie and I celebrate our 49th wedding anniversary - very special time.

I spent over 44 years in the nuclear power field, holding such positions as QA Programs Manager, Corporate EP, Safety & Health Officer, Nuclear Support Group Manager, Senior Project Consultant, Training Instructor, Machinery Division Supervisor, and Reactor Plant Operator. I have worked at over 20 nuclear related facilities, including: Navy D1G & S5W (PWRs), Davis-Besse (PWR), Three Mile Island (PWR), Beaver Valley (PWR), Waterford (PWR), Callaway (PWR), Midland (PWR), Palisades (PWR), Big Rock Point (BWR), Fermi (BWR), Perry (BWR), Fernald (DOE), Oyster Creek (BWR), Arkansas Nuclear One (PWR), Seabrook (PWR), Palo Verde (PWR), Cooper (BWR), Oconee (PWR), Maine Yankee (PWR), Trojan (PWR), South Texas Project (PWR), Washington Nuclear Project No. 2 (BWR), and the Salem (PWR) and Hope Creek (BWR) Stations.

Since I retired, I've written two books, established my own website (www.gjreed.com) and created my own blog (www.gjreed.com/g-j-reed-blog, and in concert with my wife have developed numerous genealogical booklets that we've donated to several historical societies.

I played in rock and roll bands during High School, such as the Lost Breed, the Amazing Picnic, Martha, and Time Peace. During the 1970 graduation parties, I played the lead guitar in Time Peace, which was the band that played for our 1970 graduating class during the "After Glow" at Lakemont Park Casino. I took college prep classes all through High School, but due to my six year stint in the military during the Vietnam War and the need afterwards to support my family, I didn't get my Bachelor's degree until 1990.
