The passing of an old friend, Bruce F. Wise -
On March 10th, I (George Reed) left Pennsylvania to travel to South Carolina to make a presentation regarding the submarine I served on during the 1970s. Later that day my wife's brother, Bruce Wise, passed away. He was a special guy and life-long friend that my wife and I, as well as his family, will miss terribly. He shared Terrie's and my passion for family genealogy and one of the times I will always remember is when he and his wife, Kathy, traveled with us on a genealogy research trip. Of note is that in both my family tree and in Bruce and Terrie's family tree there were numerous ancestors that helped to establish the Pennsylvania Colony throughout the years of the American Revolution. During this trip we visited Valley Forge where many of our Great-great-grandfathers (and mothers) spent time in the service of our country; and a few who later crossed the Delaware with George Washington to attack British forces at the battle of Trenton, NJ. We amazingly had Great-grandfathers on both sides. There were two Hessian soldiers - one was my Great-grandfather and one who was Bruce and Terrie's Great-grandfather - and we both had Great-grandfathers who were on the American side. A very unique family history. Both Bruce and Kathy, and Terrie and I, had a great time exploring our ancestor's journey and it will be one of my most memorable times with my Brother-in-law, Bruce Wise. Now enjoy your time in heaven my friend.

My books are at the Altoona Public Library
For those of you that live in the Altoona PA area, I just checked and found that both of my books are now available at the Altoona Public Library. You can simply walk in and use one of the library’s computer terminals to look them up, i.e., “Happiness is a Cool Reactor” (about the Three Mile Island accident) or “The Real Night Order Book” (about the two US Navy submarines named Billfish). The computer terminal will give you their index number and location in the library where they can be found. Both books highlight some of the key things I was personally involved in during my life. So if you want to snuggle up with a good book on a cold winter day, here’s your chance. Happy reading everyone!! From fellow AAHS 1970 grad - G.J. Reed
